….i read one too many of those ‘sansa should be grateful to marry Tyrion!’ posts and i was feeling a little sarcastic.
I see it has already begun
I kinda already posted about this yesterday
I don’t think there’s really any good way for any of this storyline to go…
I mean, you also have to consider in the books, Tyrion was already hideous *and* lost his nose in the Blackwater, and Sansa is ELEVEN years old…AND she willingly participated in humiliating him at their wedding (she refuses to kneel and be “cloaked”)…so yeah, show STILL less misogynist than books.
Honestly… in that world, she probably SHOULD be a little grateful that Tyrion is slightly less horrible than everyone around her, and she did not have to marry that little shit Joffrey. Seriously. Yes, he’s meeting the bare minimum of human decency, he is living in a world where many men do not, and do not see a damned thing wrong with it. Keep in mind, in the previous episode, Daeny basically gets told by a dude that if she wants his military help, she’s going to have to screw him. It’s a hideous world. And it’s a world where men treat women like things. But it’s not a world where the women are complicit, entirely. They take what power they can, and do what they can to survive. Which is sort of the story of human history. Women have always had this “other world.” Men used to call it the domain of women, and did not pay attention to their “prattle.” One of the things I love about Austen is that she looks at that world. Where even privileged women are backstabbing and doing their best to marry well, and get their children married well because that was SURVIVAL back then. Even for women in pretty dresses. Do I hate that women are treated the way they are in GoT? YES. However, I think it is a reflection on the history of women and HOW they took what power they could.
Yes, I know there’re other seriously problematic elements, such as the representation (or lack there of in some cases) of people of color, and how they’re largely represented as savages, etc. But I think this is one thing that GoT has painfully, terribly and sadly right.
1. Nope.
2. Sorry, nope.
3. “The story of human history”? Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
4. The words you’re looking for is “white European women”
5. Coercive rape is STILL RAPE.
6. ^^^^^^^^
7. The idea that a (in show) 14 year old (in book 11 year old) girl should be grateful to be raped without accompanied by public nude beatings is basically the definition of misogyny.
Ok. I agree with 3-5. However, as someone who has been abused, and I think she is being abused, You start to become grateful for the times when it’s JUST one thing, and not something worse.
Which is totally valid when you’re speaking for yourself and your own experiences.
BUUUUUT:
Honestly… in that world, she probably SHOULD be a little grateful that Tyrion is slightly less horrible than everyone around her
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
First of all anyone who says anything remotely like “this is how X person should feel about being abused” is fucked up enough on its own.
Secondly, “You SHOULD be grateful the abuse isn’t worse”
is the scariest, most abusive sentiment I can think of.
That’s what abusers say. That’s gaslighting.
No.
NOPE.
NO.

A friend of mine is going to Comic-con in PHX this weekend with this bad-ass Garrus costume. So freakin’ talented! She told me to tell Tumblr that if anyone wanted to see more pics and info on this, they should check in at Red Nebula Studios (http://www.rednebulastudios.com/) where she’ll post more after the Con…
